Users will now get the option to hide ‘likes’ on their posts on Facebook and Instagram.
‘Likes’ on social media platforms have become the center of attention to see how much influence a person has.
Since 2019, the huge social media company has been testing its capability to hide the number of likes a person gets, a feature that is not similar to Facebook, to make Instagram and Facebook less stressful when getting used.
On Wednesday, in a blog post, Facebook said that people from Wednesday can now choose if they want to see the number of likes they have on their posts or not.
Facebook has been working to battle the many criticisms that social media platforms have been facing and how harmful they can be for the well-being of society and the user.
However, the announcement on Wednesday gives the users option on Instagram and Facebook to whether they want to see the likes or not, and it’s not exactly set by default yet, making it not so clear how many users will take the step to hide the number of likes.
“What we heard from people and experts was that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some and annoying to others, particularly because people use like counts to get a sense of what’s trending or popular, so we’re giving you the choice.”
If users wish to hide the number of likes they have with the public, then the viewers will see the list of the users who liked the post and not the exact number of likes the post got.
However, the person whose post it is; can see the number of likes it got on a post, even if they choose to hide it from the public.
According to the company, this feature will let users focus and enjoy the photos and videos getting shared and not how many likes a post has gotten.
Furthermore, the company said that users of Instagram and Facebook can choose the number of likes others have got on their post as they are scrolling through the feed, by going to settings and the ‘new posts’ section.
CNN Business got told by the users that got to test this feature on Instagram that it could help people improve their wellbeing when on social platforms.
However, influencers on social media, who have made their businesses with the help of the number of likes they get need this feature to get brand partnerships.
