Facebook has announced that now it will not remove claims regarding Coronavirus being man-made from its platform.
Facebook made this announcement right after it got announced by President Joe Biden that he has governed the US intelligence to again check its facts regarding how Covid-19 began.
On Wednesday, a Facebook Spokesperson, in a statement to CNN Business said:
“In light of ongoing investigations into the origin of Covid-19 and in consultation with public health experts, we will no longer remove the claim that Covid-19 is man-made from our apps…We’re continuing to work with health experts to keep pace with the evolving nature of the pandemic and regularly update our policies as new facts and trends emerge.”
The US officials got given 90 days by Biden to investigate the origins of the virus, as got announced by Biden on Wednesday.
This announcement came after various reports got found by the US intelligence, which showed that many researchers at the Virology department of China’s Wuhan Institue fell ill in November 2019 and even had to get hospitalized.
This new report has put huge public pressure on Biden to investigate deeper on the virus’s origin.
In a statement, Biden said:
“As part of that report, I have asked for areas of further inquiry that may be required, including specific questions for China. I have also asked that this effort include work by our National Labs and other agencies of our government to augment the Intelligence Community’s efforts. And I have asked the Intelligence Community to keep Congress fully apprised of its work.”
In February, Facebook announced that all claims regarding the virus being man-made would get removed following the consultation that they had with leading health organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO).
Furthermore, the social network platform has been blocking all posts that spread misinformation and untrue claims about the vaccine, which get debunked by public health officials.
The virus began in 2019, and the origin has not exactly gotten know, as there were many stories, all of which could not get fact-checked.
Maybe this investigation will give us the answers that we need on whether this virus is man-made or not.
